OUGD505 - Studio Brief 02 - Anti Homophobic Posters and images Research

Since I want to create my own anti Homophobic designs, I wanted to look at previous work that projects the same sort of message of realisation and anti homophobia. I came a cross a small pintrest account with a couple of really good poster designs.

The last design is probably my favourite out of this little collection. The message is perfect because it cleverly belittles people who do not really know what they are talking about when it comes to something that is different from their own lifestyle.

I then continued to collect images which used clever captions and images to show confidence against homophobia, I really like these posts because they explain a more modern mind set and challenge the stigma towards abuse and negative emotions towards gay people and surrounding issues.

I like how a lot of the images use true events, past and modern to explain the caption that is placed with them. I feel that images like these and the posters I have collected are a very good way of educating people and pushing out an out dated thought process.

I definitely want to achieve this style of image presentation within my own work. Using the same type of design and presentation only concentrating more on the subjects of more disturbing issues that are usually ignored around the world.

OUGD505 - Studio Brief 02 - LGBT Issues

One of the most problematic issues going on in the world right now is the death sentence for homosexuality in eastern countries according to the self made law by ISIS.
Below is a recent new report of ISIS killing a gay teenager by throwing him off a building, because he was gay ISIS sentenced the teenager to a death sentence. Connected with this story, A member of ISIS had raped the gay teenager before his death. The ISIS member was spared a death penalty.
These are the kind of issues that happen much more within eastern countries, that I really want to tackle with my anti homophobic campaign. I still plan to carry more research into these issues, and hopefully I will be able to come up with a stronger idea into how I will be able to effectively communicate an anti gay campaign.

OUGD505 - Studio Brief 02 - Points of Interest

Whilst working on my campaign, I want to take into account all of the negative behaviour issues towards gay people all across the world. mainly in eastern countries, I want to concentrate on the violent crimes that occur, such as attacks, verbal and physical abuse including attacks. Then moving into more western countries where, being gay is generally much more accepted. I want to concentrate on the issues such as same sex marriage, transgender issues, homophobia, equality and adoption.

By doing this I feel I will cover a lot of the main issues today in my campaign to challenge these issues.

OUGD505 - Study Task 04 - Voting Campaign - Snapchat Research

Within my group we have decided to create a campaign that encourages the younger generation, like students to be more involved with voting for government, such as the general election, where a low percentage of young people actually took part in voting.

Our goal is to create campaign by involving some type of social media, such as snapchat, The idea of using snapchat as a way to get a younger generation involved in voting would be quite a successful idea, since snapchat is such a popular app amongst a large age range. Snapchat have created a website where you are able to design your own filter or (geofilter), this is where you are able to design your own snapchat filter which has some connection with a city or place in the world.

As a group, we thought this would be the perfect thing to use, to design our own snapchat filters. Since this study task is for a voting campaign, where we individually as a group are concentrating on increasing the amount of voting the younger generation do.

Alongside this idea, we thought it would be good to include some kind of a mascot for the campaign, using this idea and creating a series of posters that have encouraging messages on then which in some way will attract the attention of people and persuade them to think more about voting.

INTERN Magazine Workshop

A visitor came into the college to work with the whole studio, separating into groups to to each work on a concept and design for an independent magazine.

Working within my group we decided to create a concept for a magazine which shows fashion from different cultures. We got this idea from the culture within our group, since each member of the group was from a different country, it made a lot of sense to create something that expressed our different cultures.

The idea was to create 3 different magazines, one for Britain, Spain and india. We wanted this to be a collection of designs for different styles of fashion, which would be used to educate and get more people interested in the different types of fashion that is out there.

For Britain we wanted to concentrate on the more urban and youthful styles that are pretty popular at the moment. Easier styles and more comfortable fashion.
For Spain, we wanted to concentrate on the style of flamenco. A very expressive and serious/colourful style.
For India we wanted to concentrate on the fashion that is available for events, such as weddings, Since the fashion for these events are always very beautiful and expressive.

When we had the concept figured out we then moved onto the designs, one for each country.

We wanted each design to communicate the individual style of each country, also since each magazine will be different we wanted to change the placement of text on the image, to avoid a boring looking set of proposal designs.

I worked mostly on the designs, I asked the group for feedback and help with image choice and placement.

When the designs were completed we could then work on the presentation to talk about the concept and designs that we had created. Below is the completed presentation and designs.

I was very happy with how the presentation went, We seemed to be able to effectively get across our idea of creating a magazine that collected fashion from different cultures.
