OUGD504 - Study Task 01 - The design process - Described

For this study task I am to research the design process and consider the aspects of the design process that encompass all design practices.

So I went online to try and find out more about what the 'design process' actually is.

After some reading in a mix of words and extractions I found out that the design process is what I myself use and all other designers use to mentally and physically create the idea of design into an outcome and actual piece of work.

I found a website which compares a designers mind to that of a scientists. where we as designers approach an idea or design in a systematic manor, by going through certain stages from carrying out research to coming to the final result.
Below is an extraction from the website which I found very useful in helping to understand what the design process means to us.

"Essentially the design process is a problem-solving process, and the designer, just like the laboratory scientist, will be most successful if the problem is approached in a systematic manner. Successful fine artists generally follow the same pattern in developing their creative ideas, though they may be less conscious of the process they are following. Initially the researcher or designer/artist will tend to experiment in a rather random manner"

By taking in all the information from the website I could then begin to put together stages in which we work at to make our ideas into a completed design.

These stages show how myself and other designers work to create a design solution for a problem.

Research
Experimentation
Hypothesis
Idea
Design

These stages explain how the designers mind works systematically to take a problem and find a solution through our own limits of design.
